CONGRESS           

House Speaker Mike Johnson announced that there will be an expansion of House Committee investigations on the compliance of colleges and universities with Federal discrimination laws.

The House passed H.R.6090, the Antisemitism Awareness Act of 2023, by a vote of 320 to 91.

ADMINISTRATION

ED shared that it has completed reprocessing Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) forms impacted by tax data-related issues and nearly all corrected Institutional Student Information Records (ISIRs) have been delivered to affected institutions and States. Additionally, it is reprocessing some FAFSA forms at the request of State agencies where ED’s initial processing did not properly list institutions in the student’s order of priority.

ED announced that applicants without Social Security Numbers (SSNs) can temporarily access and complete the FAFSA form online.

The White House announced key AI actions 180 days following U.S. President Joe Biden’s Executive Order on “The Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Development and Use of Artificial Intelligence.”

The White House hosted a summit for sustainable and healthy K-12 school buildings and grounds.

The White House hosted a “Teachers of the Year” State Dinner to honor the 2024 National Teacher of the Year and the State Teachers of the Year from across the country.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) finalized its rule that aims to increase protections for LGBTQI+ children in foster care.

ED published a blog post on processing improvements made to the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program.

ED provided an update that the Office of Federal Student Aid (FSA) will begin transferring a portion of MOHELA student loan borrower accounts to other Federal student loan servicers.

President Biden approved $6.1 billion in student debt cancellation for 317,000 borrowers who attended the Art Institutes.
