PENN HILL GROUP’S WRAP UP – JANUARY 29, 2024

CONGRESS

U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Education and the Workforce Chairwoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC), U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Ranking Member Bill Cassidy (R-LA) and other lawmakers sent a letter to the Government Accountability Office asking for an investigation of the U.S. Department of Education’s (ED’s) launch of the 2024-2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form.

Chairwoman Virginia Foxx sent a letter to the University of Pennsylvania (Penn) requesting documents to assist the Committee in examining antisemitism at Penn and the university’s response to such antisemitism.

ADMINISTRATION

ED announced that it would adjust the formula used to calculate the income protection allowance on the FAFSA to account for recent levels of inflation.

ED released the 2024 National Educational Technology Plan.

ED issued guidance on assistive technology for children with disabilities.

ED released a new resource for school administrators to use in outreach to families about safe firearm storage at home as a preventative measure against firearm-related injuries and deaths.

The U.S. Department of Labor officially released a notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) to revise regulations for registered apprenticeships. Comments on the NPRM are due on or before March 18, 2024.
