HOUSE and SENATE

The U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-VT) released nine appropriations bills for fiscal year (FY) 2022, including the Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (LHHS) bill.

By a vote of 51-50, the Senate confirmed Catherin Lhamon to serve as the Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Education (ED).

ADMINISTRATION

ED completed the first of two negotiated rulemaking subcommittee sessions on prison education programs.

ED’s Office of Federal Student Aid (FSA) approved the transfer of Navient’s Federal student loan servicing contract to Maximus.

ED released a resource on, ” Supporting Child and Student Social, Emotional, Behavioral and Mental Health during COVID-19 Era”

President Joe Biden signed an Executive Order on, “Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence, and Economic Opportunity for Black Americans.”
