The House and Senate are both in recess and will return the week of September 9th.

Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee Chair Lamar Alexander (R-TN) sent a letter to the other HELP Committee members asking for bipartisan proposals within the Committee’s jurisdiction that could help prevent future mass shootings, such as through mental health and school safety programs.

ADMINISTRATION

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) published its final Public Charge rule.

The U.S. Department of Education (ED) ended its appeal of a Federal judge’s ruling that required ED to implement the Obama-era State Authorization rule.

ITT Education Services Inc, which owned and operated ITT Tech, reached a $60 million settlement with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) after CFPB alleged that ITT improperly steered students to take out private loans through the college.

Michigan State University reached a voluntary resolution agreement with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to resolve a Federal civil rights investigation over Larry Nassar’s sexual abuse of patients.

A Federal judge ruled that a Virginia school district’s transgender bathroom ban discriminated against transgender student Gavin Grimm.

The Administration appointed Robert Cameron as CFPB’s Student Loan Ombudsman.
