PENN HILL GROUP’S WRAP UP – FEBRUARY 26, 2024

CONGRESS

U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Ranking Member Bill Cassidy (R-LA) released a report on child literacy and requested feedback on a series of questions pertaining to child literacy by April 5.

The U.S. House of Representatives is expected to consider H.R. 6585, the Bipartisan Workforce Pell Act, under suspension of the rules next week.

ADMINISTRATION

The U.S. Department of Education (ED) announced $1.2 billion in loan forgiveness for approximately 150,000 borrowers through the Saving on a Valuable Education (SAVE) income-driven repayment (IDR) plan.

ED issued guidance for students who have been unable to complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form due to their contributor not having a social security number.

ED held the fourth session of its negotiated rulemaking effort on student loan debt.

ED released new resources on the rights of students with asthma, diabetes, food allergies and Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
