CONGRESS
Despite the U.S. House of Representatives Rules Committee approving a rule to consider a continuing resolution (CR) on the House floor, the full House did not vote on such a measure this week and has not scheduled such a vote for next week.
The House Committee on Education and the Workforce released a report titled “Freedom of Speech and Its Protection on College Campuses.”
ADMINISTRATION
The Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) completed its review of the U.S. Department of Education’s (ED’s) new final rule on Gainful Employment and began review of ED’s new final rules on Financial Responsibility, Administrative Capability, Certification Procedures and Ability to Benefit regulations.
ED sent a letter to 16 governors urging equitable funding of land-grant Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
ED issued new proposed priorities, requirements and definitions for its Title III National Professional Development Program and released a related blog post centered on bilingual teacher preparation.
ED announced that the Biden Administration will award $40 million to Hispanic-Serving Institutions through the Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions Grant and Minority Science and Engineering Improvement Program.
THE COURTS
The Biden Administration filed a motion to dismiss State of Florida v. Miguel Cardona et. al., a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the U.S. higher education accreditation system.
