CONGRESS

Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy invited President Joe Biden to give the annual State of the Union Address on February 7. President Biden has accepted this invitation.

The House Committee on Appropriations announced subcommittee chair assignments for the 118^th Congress. Rep. Robert Aderholt will serve as the chair of the Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies.

ADMINISTRATION

The Biden Administration released a fact sheet on supporting community schools.

The U.S. Department of Education’s (ED) Office of Inspector General released a report on its audit of “Federal Student Aid’s Transition to the Next Generation Loan Servicing Environment.”

U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona is scheduled to speak on January 24 when he will outline “progress and additional efforts towards Department’s priorities and vision for education.”
