ADMINISTRATION

The U.S. Department of Education (ED) announced the launch of real-time results for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), allowing students and families to receive eligibility information immediately after submitting their application.

According to POLITICO, the Treasury Department rescinded student loan default collection work that had been assigned to five private contractors, citing a procurement error.

U.S. President Donald Trump issued an executive order titled “Promoting Advanced Artificial Intelligence Innovation and Security.”

CONGRESS

The House Appropriations Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies (LHHS) Subcommittee released its fiscal year (FY) 2027 appropriations bill text. The Committee press release can be found here. The Committee summary of the Subcommittee bill can be found here. The House Appropriations LHHS Subcommittee passed this bill by an 11 to 7 vote.

The Senate Appropriations Committee postponed its scheduled markup of the FY 2027 Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies appropriations bill, along with several other appropriations measures.

COURTS

A coalition of more than ten national nursing organizations sued ED over its final Reimagining and Improving Student Education (RISE) rule. Subsequently, the American Academy of Physician Associates and the Physician Assistant Education Association filed a lawsuit on the matter.
