ADMINISTRATION

The U.S. Department of Education (ED) announced the implementation of new measures to prevent fraud when students apply through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The measures will take effect on April 26, 2026.

ED’s Accreditation, Innovation and Modernization (AIM) Negotiated Rulemaking Committee held its first of two weeks of sessions. The AIM Committee is scheduled to meet again from May 18 through May 22, 2026.

ED notified Congress that the agency is dissolving the Office of English Language Acquisition in a letter dated February 13, 2026 which media outlets began reporting on this week.

COURTS

A U.S. District Court judge extended a temporary restraining order pertaining to the Admissions and Consumer Transparency Supplemental Survey, an expansion of the existing Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System from earlier this year, for institutions represented by certain associations.
