PENN HILL GROUP’S WRAP UP – DECEMBER 2, 2024

CONGRESS

The Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee and the House Education and the Workforce Committee released a bipartisan, bicameral bill to reauthorize and make amendments to the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).

ADMINISTRATION

The Institute of Education Sciences published a report titled “Participation in School Activities by Spanish- and English-speaking Parents of Enrolled Students: 1999–2019.”

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Office for Civil Rights issued a Dear Colleague Letter reminding HHS-funded health and human service providers of their responsibility under Federal civil rights laws to prevent and address discrimination based on antisemitism, Islamophobia and other forms of discrimination related to religion, shared ancestry or ethnicity.

TRANSITION

President-elect Donald Trump nominated former Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer (R-OR) as U.S. Secretary of Labor, Scott Bessent as U.S. Secretary of the Treasury and Russell Vought as Director of the Office of Management and Budget.

The Trump transition signed a memorandum of understanding with the Biden Administration, enabling the deployment of landing teams and other key transition processes before Jan. 20.
