CONGRESS
The House and Senate are scheduled to be in recess next week. The Senate schedule may change pending the consideration of supplemental appropriations bills and other matters.
ADMINISTRATION
The U.S. Department of Education (ED) published a notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) on student loan forgiveness. There is a 30-day period for public comment on this NPRM.
ED released final Title IX regulations. The regulations are scheduled to be published in the Federal Register on April 29.
ED shared that applicants and their contributors are now able make any necessary student-initiated corrections to their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) forms. Additionally, ED provided timeline updates on its reprocessing plans and highlighted its efforts to increase FAFSA submissions during this National FAFSA Week of Action.
ED announced that some duplicate Institutional Student Information Records (ISIRs) were delivered to institution mailboxes during the afternoon and evening of April 16 and that it is currently working to resolve this issue.
ED released a blog post on its efforts during the first months of transitioning Federal student loan borrowers back to repayment.
ED announced a new path for student loan borrowers who are incarcerated to exit default through loan consolidation.
ED published a blog post on the impact of community colleges on students, the workforce and communities over the past century.
