CONGRESS
House Committee on Education and the Workforce Chairwoman Virginia Foxx announced that she will not seek another term in Education and Workforce Committee leadership. Relatedly, POLITICO reported that Representatives Tim Walberg (R-MI) and Burgess Owens (R-UT) will seek to succeed Foxx as the top Republican Member of the Committee next Congress.
The House Committee on Education and the Workforce issued subpoenas to Harvard University officials in conjunction with the Committee’s investigation regarding antisemitism.
ADMINISTRATION
The U.S. Department of Education (ED) announced additional steps to help colleges process forthcoming Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) forms.
ED released its 2023 Equity Action Plan to further advance racial equity and support for underserved communities.
Next week, ED will convene a fourth negotiated rulemaking session on student loan debt focused on borrowers experiencing hardship. In advance of this session, ED released the regulatory proposal on loan forgiveness based on hardship that the negotiators will discuss.
