CONGRESS
The U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies (LHHS) released bill text for its fiscal year 2024 appropriations and reported the bill to the Full Appropriations Committee favorably on a voice vote. The House Committee on Rules will meet to consider H.R. 3941 – Schools Not Shelters Act on Monday, July 17.
U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) sent out a dear colleague letter enumerating his legislative priorities for the remainder of July.
ADMINISTRATION
The U.S. Department of Education announced that 804,000 borrowers will receive $39 billion in automatic loan forgiveness following the implementation of the Biden Administration’s changes to Income-Driven Repayment Plans.
The Biden Administration published a proposed rule that would amend the Child Care and Development Fund. Public comments on the proposed rule are due by August 28.
The Federal Communications Commission announced $13.9 million in new funding through the Emergency Connectivity Fund Program.
