CONGRESS
The U.S. Senate voted to confirm Glenna Wright-Gallo to serve as the Assistant Secretary for Special Education and Rehabilitative Services at the U.S. Department of Education (ED) on a 52-44 vote.
The U.S House of Representatives Committee on Education and the Workforce passed H.J. Res. 45 – Providing for congressional disapproval under chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of the rule submitted by the Department of Education relating to “Waivers and Modifications of Federal Student Loans” on a 24-18 vote.
ADMINISTRATION
The Federal Public Health Emergency for COVID-19 expired this week.
U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona sent a Dear Colleague Letter to colleges, universities and school districts urging the use of Federal Work Study funds to increase the number of postsecondary students supporting K-12 programming.
ED released an update on student loan forgiveness through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program and announced that it will update the PSLF Help Tool used to file PSLF applications.
