CONGRESS 

The U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) held its organizing meeting, ratifying the committee’s funding resolution and rules for the 118th Congress. 

The U.S. House of Representatives on Education and the Workforce held its first hearing of the 118th Congress titled “American Education in Crisis.” 

ADMINISTRATION 

President Joe Biden delivered the annual State of the Union address and released a fact sheet on his “Unity Agenda.” 

It has been reported that current U.S. Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh will leave the Biden Administration to head the National Hockey League Players’ Association. 

SUPREME COURT 

Five former U.S. Department of Education Secretaries, 128 House Republicans and 43 Republican Senators filed amicus briefs in the Federal student loan forgiveness case on which the Supreme Court of the United States will hear oral arguments at the end of February.
