HOUSE and SENATE
The U.S. House of Representatives passed the Build Back Better Act, the Democrats’ Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 budget reconciliation legislation, on a 220 to 213 vote.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) announced that the House and U.S. Senate would go to conference on the United State Innovation and Competition Act in lieu of adding the Act as an amendment to the FY 2022 National Defense Authorization Act.
ADMINISTRATION
President Joe Biden signed the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
The U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB) released a full cost estimate for the Build Back Better Act.
The U.S. Department of Education (ED) approved Puerto Rico’s plan for the use of Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) Funds under the American Rescue Plan.
ED announced that it plans to include new data categories in its Civil Rights Data Collection (CRDC) efforts for the 2021-2022 school year.
