HOUSE and SENATE
The U.S. Congress passed, and the President signed into law, a short-term extension of the Federal debt limit.
ADMINISTRATION
U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona appointed five new members to the National Assessment Governing Board.
U.S. President Joe Biden signed an Executive Order on “Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence, and Economic Opportunity for Native Americans and Strengthening Tribal Colleges and Universities.”
The White House released a fact sheet on the Biden Administration’s initiatives for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU).
The Department of Education (ED) approved three more State plans (Nebraska, Maryland and Virginia) for the use of Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) Funds under the American Rescue Plan.
ED announced new performance, transparency and accountability standards for Federal student loan servicers under contract with ED.
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau announced the appointment of key leadership officials and staff.
