Here’s a quick look at the news from last week (October 22-26) in Washington.

ADMINISTRATION
The Institute of Education Sciences released a report titled “School Improvement Grants: Analyses of State Applications and Eligible and Awarded School.”

PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
President Obama and Governor Romney had their final debate last Monday, focused on foreign policy. Both candidates talked about education issues as they relate to a strong foreign policy agenda. Transcript and video of the debate.

HOUSE and SENATE
House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) issued a report last week about executive overreach of the Obama Administration. House Committee on Education & the Workforce Republicans highlighted some of the cases dealing with education and workforce issues.

BUDGET
President Obama commented on the upcoming budget sequestration during the Presidential debate last Monday, saying it “will not happen.” He made further remarks on sequestration this week saying that he wants to begin negotiations to resolve sequestration after the election, and he believes that Congress will be able to resolve the fiscal cliff issue.
