CONGRESS
Rep. Adelita Grijalva (D-AZ) was appointed to the House Education and Workforce Committee.
The U.S. Senate unanimously passed an amended version of S. 222, the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act.
ADMINISTRATION
The U.S. Department of Education (ED) announced six new interagency agreements (IAAs) with four agencies: the U.S. Department of Labor, the U.S. Department of Interior, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the U.S. Department of State. The IAAs allow these four agencies to administer elements of ED’s K-12, higher education and Indian education programs.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced a new “fraud hub” aimed at assisting colleges in identifying student visa misuse and fraud.
ED announced that Richard Lucas will lead the Office of Federal Student Aid as Acting Chief Operating Officer.
COURTS
A district court judge allowed for the continuation of a tuition policy that gives certain undocumented students who graduated from Kentucky high schools access to in-State rates.
A district court judge issued a preliminary injunction, blocking the Trump Administration from proceeding with the issuance of fines and suspension of funds from the University of California to force the system to change its admissions practices and other policies.
