PENN HILL GROUP’S WRAP UP- NOVEMBER 16, 2020

A quick look back at the news from last week. Compiled by Penn Hill Group.

ELECTION
On Saturday November 7, major media outlets projected Vice President Joe Biden and Senator Kamala Harris the winners of Pennsylvania’s 20 electoral college votes. By winning Pennsylvania, Biden and Harris are now projected to have won the more than the 270 electoral college votes necessary to become the next President and Vice President of the United States. In addition, Biden and Harris are, as of today, the projected winners of Arizona’s and Georgia’s electoral college votes. President Trump and Vice President Pence have been projected to be the winners of North Carolina’s electoral college votes. At present 13 House seats remain uncalled, making the current count 219 Democrats and 203 Republicans elected to seats in the 117th Congress. With Alaska’s Senate race being called for Senator Dan Sullivan (R-AK), only the two Georgia Senate seats, which are headed to runoffs on January 5, remain undecided.

Thirty-nine Biden-Harris Agency review teams were named to begin the transition process for Federal agencies.

The Senate Appropriations Committee Republicans released bill text and explanatory statements for 12 appropriations bills, including the Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies (LHHS) bill, on Tuesday.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), as well as all Republican and Democratic leadership team members re-seeking their current posts, have been re-elected to their roles for the 117th Congress.

The First Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals upheld a lower court’s ruling that Asian Americans were not discriminated against by Harvard University’s use of race in its admission process.
