Penn Hill Group’s Washington Wrap-Up: January 14

Here’s a quick look at the news from last week (January 7 –  January 11) in Washington.

ADMINISTRATION

President Obama will give his State of the Union address to Congress on February 12, 2013.

Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis announced that she will resign from the Administration.

The U.S. Department of Education rejected California’s request for a No Child Left Behind waiver. The letter from Secretary Duncan to the state says that the state’s request does meet the Department’s requirements for a waiver, mainly the teacher-evaluation component.

HOUSE and SENATE
The Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions will likely hold a hearing in late January or early February on the No Child Left Behind state waivers, as reported in Education Week.
