CONGRESS

Senate Appropriations Committee Vice Chair Patty Murray (D-WA) and House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) wrote to White House Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought criticizing his oversight of the submission of fiscal year (FY) 2025 operating plans to Congress.

ADMINISTRATION

Vought, as part of a media interview, stated that President Trump’s full fiscal year (FY) 2026 budget request will not be released until a reconciliation bill is passed.

The U.S. Department of Labor announced that it will begin a phased pause in operations at contractor-operated Job Corps centers across the country.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio made a statement that “Under President Trump’s leadership, the U.S. State Department will work with the Department of Homeland Security to aggressively revoke visas for Chinese students, including those with connections to the Chinese Communist Party or studying in critical fields….We will also revise visa criteria to enhance scrutiny of all future visa applications from the People’s Republic of China and Hong Kong.”

The U.S. Department of Education announced actions and steps to combat fraud in Federal student aid programs.
