PENN HILL GROUP’S WRAP UP – SEPTEMBER 23, 2024
CONGRESS
The House failed to pass, by a 202 to 220 margin, H.R. 9494, a continuing resolution that, among other provisions, would have funded the government through March 28 and required proof of citizenship to vote in Federal elections.
The full House passed H.R.3724 ‒ the Accreditation for College Excellence Act of 2023, also known as the End Woke Higher Education Act ‒ by a margin of 203 to 195. This bill also included the text of H.R. 7683 ‒ the Respecting the First Amendment on Campus Act.
ADMINISTRATION
The Department of Education extended the current reporting deadline related to its Financial Value Transparency and Gainful Employment rules from October 1 until January 15.
COURTS
A Federal District Court Judge in the Southern District of Georgia extended the temporary restraining order against the Biden Administration’s latest student loan forgiveness regulations for an additional 14 days.
