CONGRESS

U.S. House Education and the Workforce Committee Chairwoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC) sent a letter to Rutgers University officials regarding antisemitism on campus.

ADMINISTRATION

The U.S. Department of Education (ED) announced that it had processed more than 4.3 million Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) forms and delivered Institutional Student Information Records (ISIRs) to the majority of schools, States, and designated scholarship organizations. Additionally, ED released a new FAFSA Status tracker to provide regular updates on the quantity of FAFSA forms submitted to and processed by ED.

ED announced a delay for institutions of higher education to meet initial reporting deadlines with respect to Gainful Employment (GE) and Fair Value Transparency (FVT) regulations. ED also released the first of several guidance documents on the implementation of GE and FVT.

ED Secretary Cardona wrote a letter to the nation’s Governors providing several updates on FAFSA implementation and encouraging them to take State actions to boost FAFSA completion rates.

ED submitted its draft regulations on loan forgiveness to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB)’s Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) for review.

ED launched the Government Coordinating Council (GCC) in an effort to enhance cybersecurity across K-12 educational institutions.

U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris introduced OMB’s new policy seeking to reduce the risks and maximize the benefits of artificial intelligence (AI) use within Federal agencies.

The White House launched a Saving on a Valuable Education (SAVE) Day of Action to promote enrollment in the SAVE Plan over the coming months.

The White House and Small Business Administration (SBA) shared new efforts to support small businesses that offer child care services.

Vice President Harris proposed two measures to reduce gun violence in schools.
