PENN HILL GROUP’S WRAP UP – JUNE 5, 2023

A quick look back at the news from last week. Compiled by Penn Hill Group.

CONGRESS

The U.S. House of Representatives passed the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023 on a 314-117 vote and the U.S. Senate passed the same legislation on a 63-36 vote.

On a 52-46 vote, the Senate passed H.J. Res 45 – “Providing for congressional disapproval under chapter 8 of title 5, United States Code, of the rule submitted by the Department of Education relating to “Waivers and Modifications of Federal Student Loans.” This is a Congressional Review Act resolution of disapproval pertaining to the Administration’s loan forgiveness and payment pause initiatives.

ADMINISTRATION

The U.S. Department of Education (ED) announced that it expects to publish final versions of updates to Title IX regulations in October 2023.

EVENTS
