CONGRESS
The U.S. House of Representatives passed “H.Res.461 – Condemning the use of elementary and secondary school facilities to provide shelter for aliens who are not admitted to the United States” on a 223-201 vote.
The U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations approved topline subcommittee allocations for FY 2024 appropriations legislation. The Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies received an allocation of $195.2 billion.
ADMINISTRATION
U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona issued a statement on long-term trends in math and reading for 13-year-olds.
Secretary Cardona and U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra sent a joint letter to State governors on helping States, communities and schools “support students’ mental health and well-being, particularly students impacted by gun violence.”
