CONGRESS
The House Committee on Education and the Workforce passed H.R. 5, the Parents Bill of Rights Act and H.R. 734, the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2023. Both bills passed on 27-15 votes.
ADMINISTRATION
President Biden released his fiscal year 2024 budget request. You can find the U.S. Department of Education (ED) documents here, the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) documents here and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services documents here.
ED released guidance titled “Establishing Personal Liability Requirements for Financial Losses Related to the Title IV Programs.”
President Biden released a statement on the passing of Judy Heumann, former ED Assistant Secretary for the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services. U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona also issued a statement.
U.S. Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh announced a new initiative to expand access to high-quality careers for youth.
The U.S. Department of Commerce issued a request for comment on the State Digital Equity Capacity Grant Program and Digital Equity Competitive Grant Program. Comments are due on or before May 1.
