CONGRESS
The U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations released its draft bill text and draft explanatory statement for its fiscal year (FY) 2023 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies (LHHS) bill.
On a 64-33 vote, the Senate passed, and on a 243-187 vote, the U.S. House of Representatives passed, the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022 (the legislation informally known as CHIPS+).
ADMINISTRATION
The U.S. Department of Education published regulatory proposals for 90/10, Change in Ownership and Pell Grants for Incarcerated Individuals with a comment due date of August 26.
In a blog post, Federal Student Aid Chief Operating Officer Richard Cordray discussed the new National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) website.
SUPREME COURT
The Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) announced that it will now separately consider Students for Fair Admissions’ (SFA) affirmative action legal challenges against Harvard University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
