CONGRESS

The U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations approved its 302(b) subcommittee allocations for the fiscal year (FY) 2023 appropriations cycle.

The House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies released legislative text for FY 2023 and passed the bill out of the subcommittee by a voice vote.

The House and Senate passed the “Bipartisan Safer Communities Act,” legislation related to firearms, mental health and school safety.

The House and Senate passed the “Keep Kids Fed Act,” legislation to extend school meal and related waivers.

The House Committee on Energy and Commerce’s Subcommittee on Consumer Protection marked up and passed the America Data Privacy and Protection Act by a voice vote.

ADMINISTRATION

The U.S. Department of Education (ED) released the Biden Administration’s proposed amendments to current Title IX regulations.

The U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB) released the Spring 2022 Unified Agenda for Federal Agencies, including an estimated timeline for ED’s upcoming regulatory actions and the U.S. Department of Labor’s upcoming regulatory actions.

President Joe Biden released a statement on “the 50th Anniversary of Title IX.”

U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona issued a press release on “New COVID-19 Vaccine Eligibility for Children Ages 5 and Younger.”

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo and U.S. Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh released the “Good Jobs Principles” as part of the agencies’ “Good Jobs Initiative.”

SUPREME COURT

The Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) issued a ruling on Carson v. Makin (2022) regarding a Maine State law barring State funds for religious schools.
