CONGRESS
The U.S. Senate officially named conferees for the Congressional conference on the House-passed America Creating Opportunities for Manufacturing Pre-Eminence in Technology and Economic Strength (COMPETES) Act and the Senate-passed United States Innovation and Competition Act (USICA).
By a vote of 55-41, the Senate passed a resolution disapproving of a Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) rule that implements vaccine and mask requirements in Head Start programs.
The U.S. Government Accountability Office released a report on the U.S. Department of Education’s oversight of online program managers utilized by institutions of higher education. Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee Chair Patty Murray (D-WA) and House Education and Labor Committee Chairman Bobby Scott (D-VA) released a joint statement with other Democrats on the report.
ADMINISTRATION
President Joe Biden announced that Karine Jean-Pierre will serve as the new White House Press Secretary when current Press Secretary Jen Psaki leaves the role on May 13.
ED announced that its Office for Civil Rights will seek public comment on changes to regulations pertaining to section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973
