HOUSE and SENATE 

The U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations announced the subcommittee deadlines for programmatic and member requests. The deadline for the Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies (LHHS) appropriations subcommittee is April 27. 

Congressmember Don Young (R-AK) passed away at the age of 88. 

ADMINISTRATION 

President Biden announced his intent to nominate Nasser Paydar as Assistant Secretary for Postsecondary Education at the U.S Department of Education (ED). 

U.S. Secretary of EducationMiguel Cardona sent a letter to parents and educators on the impact of recent Centers for Disease Control (CDC) COVID-19 guidance on students with disabilities. 

Secretary Cardona and U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra announced “a joint-department effort to expand school-based health services.” 

ED announced an update to program participation agreement signature requirements for entities exercising substantial control over non-public institutions of higher education which will take effect on July 1, 2022. 

SUPREME COURT 

The Senate Judiciary Committee concluded its confirmation hearings for U.S. Supreme Court nominee Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson.
