HOUSE and SENATE
The House Committee on Ways and Means completed the markup of its budget reconciliation legislation.
The U.S. Senate confirmed James R. Kvaal to be the Under Secretary of Education at the U.S. Department of Education (ED) by a vote of 58-37.
ADMINISTRATION
President Joe Biden announced his intent to nominate Robert Valdez for the position of Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation at the Department of Health and Human Services.
President Biden signed an Executive Order creating the White House Initiative on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence, and Economic Opportunity for Hispanics.
ED announced the creation of the Puerto Rico Education Sustainability Team to support Puerto Rico in improving educational outcomes for its students.
ED approved four more State plans for the use of Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds under the American Rescue Plan.
