HOUSE AND SENATE
The U.S House of Representatives is scheduled to vote next week on a rule that will allow debate on the U.S Senate’s Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 budget resolution. The House plans to vote on the FY22 budget resolution itself next Tuesday.
ADMINISTRATION
The U.S. Department of Education (ED) announced changes to streamline the issuance of loan discharges for student loan borrowers with a total and permanent disability. The initial amount of total loan discharge is expected to total more than $5.8 billion.
ED approved an additional State plan for the use of Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds under the American Rescue Plan.
The White House released a memorandum calling on ED to use its authority to ensure a safe return to in-person schooling in reaction to States banning school mask mandates.
