HOUSE and SENATE

The House and Senate will be in recess next week and will return the week of April 29.

The deadline to submit written testimony to the Senate Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education (LHHS) Appropriations Subcommittee on the fiscal year (FY) 2020 budget is June 3.

ADMINISTRATION

The U.S. Department of Education (ED) released the draft consensus language from the recent higher education negotiated rulemaking.

The Federal Student Aid (FSA) office posted recommendations for institutions of higher education (IHEs) regarding how they should present Federal student aid and the cost of attendance to students.

Speaking at the Reagan Institute Summit on Education, Diane Jones, the Principal Deputy Under Secretary at ED, said that the Administration is considering creating an income share agreement (ISA) pilot program through the experimental sites authority.

The Administration appointed Reed Rubinstein to be ED’s acting General Counsel.

The U.S. Department of Defense proposed a modification to their data systems that will enable a matching process with ED to allow for the elimination of interest on student loans for service members during combat service.
