HOUSE and SENATE

The House and Senate return from recess today, Tuesday, September 8.

The House Education and the Workforce Committee Chairman John Kline (R-MN) announced he will not seek reelection in November, 2016.

The House Education and the Workforce Subcommittee on Higher Education and Workforce Training will hold a subcommittee hearing on sexual assault on college campuses on Thursday, September 10. Witnesses for this hearing have yet to be announced.

The House Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittee on Economic Opportunity will hold a subcommittee hearing on licensing and credentialing standards for servicemembers and veterans on Thursday, September 10. Witnesses for this hearing have yet to be announced.

ADMINISTRATION

The U.S. Department of Education (ED) announced the 11 locations for their annual Back-to-School Bus Tour.

ED’s Special Master, Joseph A. Smith Jr., released a report revealing ED has approved $40 million-worth of “closed school discharge” claims for student loans of former Corinthian College students.
