Here’s a quick look at the news from last week (October 29- November 2) in Washington.

ADMINISTRATION
The U.S. Department of Education extended the deadline for districts to apply for the Race to the Top-District competition, due to Hurricane Sandy. The original deadline was October 30; districts in most states now have until Friday, November 2. Districts in federal disaster area states have until November 7.

The U.S. Department of Education released final regulations for the new “Pay as You Earn” income-based loan repayment program.

HOUSE and SENATE
Congress is in recess.
