ADMINISTRATION
The Department of Education released a third set of FAQs for the Race to the Top-District Competition.

PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
Vice President Joe Biden and Rep. Paul Ryan debated on Thursday night. Education Week had a roundup of the education-related content.

HOUSE and SENATE
The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee will hold a full committee field hearing  on BEST – Building Educational Success Together, on October 19 in Anchorage, AK.

Democrats on the House Appropriations Committee released a Dear Colleague letter reporting on the consequences of sequestration for various programs, including education programs, and includes some estimates on the number of people (students, employees, teachers, etc.) that would be affected by the cuts.
