The National Council for La Raza (NCLR) recently held its first annual Education Summer Institutes. The event highlighted four NCLR Education programs, the National Institute for Latino School Leaders (NILSL), Padres Comprometidos, Children Investigating Science with Parents and Afterschool (CHISPA) and the annual Leadership Institute for Latino Literacy (LILL).

Penn Hill Group’s Danica Petroshius and Ruth Lopez held a training for NILSL Fellows around the newly passed Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and what this legislation means for NCLR education priorities and English Learners nationwide. They also briefed NCLR members on ESSA, and coached them on effective advocacy in Congress and how to begin to plan for related State-level advocacy.
